VE-DAY 80th ANNIVERSARY: 8th May - End of War Celebrations
The film shows traces the final stages of the War in Europe, and show Churchill broadcasting his radio announcement of the end of hostilities and announcing that we may “allow ourselves a brief period of rejoicing”. We see a variety of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) Peace celebrations and street parties – and refer forward to the final end of War three months later when Japan surrendered. We then conclude with some local VJ Day (Victory against Japan Day) marches and celebrations in Leek.
