MAC Education Programme

The Mitchell Arts Centres education team are passionate about making quality arts education accessible to everyone. Over the past two years, thanks to the support from Tesco Community Funding, National Lottery Heritage and Community Funds, and The Hubb Foundation, we’ve been able to extend our reach and impact. Our goal is to support and inspire individuals from all backgrounds by breaking down the barriers to arts participation.
We offer a variety of programmes designed to engage and educate. Our school trips provide students with a captivating introduction to theatre, while our work experience week—partnered with BBC Bring the Drama—gives young people a behind-the-scenes look at the industry. Additionally, our Mac Youth Board, in collaboration with St. Margaret Youth Ward Catholic Academy, fosters creativity and leadership among youth.
To stay informed about upcoming events and opportunities within our education programs, be sure to check out our information board at the box office, our social media pages and our website whats on page. Join us in exploring the transformative power of theatre and education!

MAC Volunteering Programme

Aims

The MAC volunteering programme is open to all who are able to contribute. We are determined  volunteering at the MAC must be rewarding for volunteers as well as a benefit to the charitable activities of the MAC. Our focus is on young people and creativity as well as the well-being of the wider Stoke-on-Trent community.

We expect volunteers to find satisfaction and enjoyment in some or all of:

  • Community involvement
  • A sense of achievement
  • New friends
  • Active and rewarding work and responsibilities
  • The chance to learn new skills.
  • Greater appreciation of the arts (free tickets to shows)

Volunteering Opportunities:

Voluntary access champion-
1. Liaising with Community Groups; Engaging with local organizations, community centers, and interest groups to share information about the access program. This involves building partnerships, fostering communication, and spreading awareness to ensure diverse communities are aware of the opportunities available.
2. Collecting Participant Feedback: Gathering insights from participants to better understand the barriers they face when accessing the program.
3- Advisory and Improvement: Using the insights gained to provide recommendations on how to make the program more inclusive and effective. This could mean suggesting changes to program delivery, marketing approaches, or accessibility features.
4. Representation and Advocacy: Acting as a representative for participants to highlight their needs and ensuring their voices are heard during program development discussions.
5. Support and Guidance: Assisting participants in navigating the program, answering questions, and providing support to make the experience as seamless as possible.
This role is essential for bridging the gap between service providers and community members, ensuring that programs are tailored to meet the needs of all participants, especially those who may face access challenges.
