Celebrating 70 Years of MAC: Inspiring the Next Generation of Theatre Makers

As we approach the incredible milestone of 70 years at the Mitchell Arts Centre, we’re taking this opportunity not just to celebrate our history — but to invest in the future. Our mission has always been rooted in community, creativity, and accessibility. Now more than ever, we are raising aspirations, breaking down barriers to the arts, and helping people of all ages find their place in theatre.
In the run-up to our anniversary, we're proud to be working with young people to unlock their potential, nurture ambition, and spark hope for the future. From hands-on workshops to live performances, we’re creating spaces where creativity can flourish — especially for those who may not have had the opportunity before.
One of the highlights of this exciting journey is our upcoming Work Experience Week, where young people will quite literally take over the venue — performing in a show and gaining invaluable behind-the-scenes insight into the world of the performing arts.
As part of this week, on Friday 27th March, we’re opening our doors to local primary schools for two special performances and talks at 1pm. These sessions will showcase the talent, creativity, and voices of our young participants, and are a perfect opportunity to introduce children to the power of live performance and the arts.

Please note: Travel is not provided for this event. If you are a teacher or group leader and would like to bring a group of children, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch at:

Together, we’re building the next generation of artists, audiences, and cultural leaders. Join us in celebrating 70 years of MAC — and help shape the next 70.
