Getting Here

Parking

There are a limited number of disabled parking spaces directly outside the building on Broad Street. If these are occupied, there is also space to drop passengers off directly outside the main entrance.

Alternative parking is available at Tesco, situated behind the theatre. Visitors can park free of charge for the duration of their visit by entering their vehicle registration on the parking screen located in the main entrance foyer.

Please note: The Tesco parking system is managed by Tesco and not by the Mitchell Arts Centre. We cannot be held responsible for parking notices issued due to problems with this system. If you receive a parking charge, please contact Tesco directly.

Around The Venue

Entrance, Box Office & Café Bar

The route from the pavement into the foyer, Box Office and Café Bar is completely step-free, making it accessible for wheelchair users, pushchairs and visitors with limited mobility.

Tables and chairs in the Café Bar can be rearranged to accommodate wheelchair users or larger mobility equipment. Please speak to a member of staff if you require any assistance.

Accessible Toilets

An accessible toilet with baby changing facilities is located on the first floor next to the main toilets.

A further accessible toilet is located adjacent to the auditorium balcony.

Our dressing rooms are connected to the stage by a ramp, allowing performers with access requirements to move comfortably between the dressing rooms and stage.

Meeting Rooms

Our Meeting Room is located on the first floor and is fully accessible by lift. A ramp connects the lift directly to the meeting room entrance.

The Board Room is located on the second floor and is also accessible by lift.

Accessible toilet facilities are available nearby.

Relaxed Performances & Screenings

We present a range of Relaxed Performances and Relaxed Screenings throughout the year, including theatre productions, family shows, pantomime and cinema screenings.

Please refer to our What's On listings or current brochure for upcoming relaxed performances, or contact the Box Office on 01782 409307 for more information.

Audio Support

We are pleased to have a resident Audio Describer, Tim Calvert, who provides live audio description for selected performances.

Audio description is designed to enhance the experience for blind and partially sighted audience members by providing clear, live narration of the visual elements of a production during natural pauses in the dialogue.

To support this service, we use a portable wireless audio guide system consisting of:

  • · A transmitter
  • · Eleven audience receiver units
  • · A headband microphone worn by the audio describer

The live commentary is transmitted wirelessly to discreet in-ear receivers, allowing audience members to enjoy the performance comfortably without affecting the experience of others.

This portable system enables us to provide accessible performances and make selected shows more inclusive for everyone.

Sensory Support

Sensory Bags are available free of charge from the Box Office.

If you would like to borrow one during your visit, simply ask a member of staff.

Each Sensory Bag contains a selection of supportive items, including:

  • · Communication cards
  • · Sunglasses
  • · Ear defenders
  • · Fidget toys

These items are available to help make visits more comfortable and enjoyable for audience members who benefit from additional sensory support.
